The art of being thankful.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I just want to express my thanks to everyone in the guild; past and present. Over the last five years, I've made a lot of great friends. Some still raid with, and some still stays in contact with me on Facebook, Google+ and email.
I look back at all the people that have made the game enjoyable for me to play with... Tony, Brandi, Rusty, Mikey, Barry, Bryan, Shandray, Jason, Kim, Rich, Justin and the Larry's. (I'm sure I've missed a handful) These guys and gals really made the game not simply about killing stuff, but also having a ton of fun doing so. Although they don't play anymore, they impacted the guild and will forever have a place in any game I play or real life.
My old crew, like... Dan, Nate, Jamie and Josh... These guys have been around forever and still continue to play. Without these core members, AJ wouldn't exist. Even the 'new' guys to the guild have not only helped the guild progress, but reinforced what AJ is all about... Chris, Wendy, Matthew and Carl... You guys rock.
So anyway... There's a lot I have to be thankful for in real life, but also the virtual world. I love you all!
This is my moment.
Instead of singing the 'Friday' song; I thought I'd treat you to another Rebecca Black song... Enjoy.
Hope everyone had a good week. I got back from my trip, and my inlays will be here tomorrow so I'll be pretty much indisposed until after Thanksgiving. I talked to Josh a bit, and we are still hoping we have enough interest to raid. I also know I mentioned last raid, that maybe we should take an official break until after the Holidays.
Josh brought up a good point, and I didn't even think about it. The latest patch (4.3) will most likely be released in the next few weeks. How dare Blizzard release new content when we are all traveling and wrapping presents?!
Historically, we lose a few raiders during this time because they are too anxious to wait to beginning raiding. I don't want that to happen. So, we'll do whatever we can to keep the group together and progress. I will be gone the last two weeks of December with zero internet (my folks live in the sticks).
Anyway, have a great weekend everyone!!!
Extended weekend, incoming.
Happy Veterans Day everyone. High-five to all of the Veterans as well as active duty military. I appreciate your sacrifice and commitment and fully know that I wouldn't be here updating my blog without you.
With that said... great job last night in Firelands. Aside from our one priests (cough-cough) who kept disconnecting; it only took us one 'real' attempt to down Shannox. Awesome. Rhyolith is definitely doable. Our best attempt was 42% and I'm confident we'll get him down our next go around.
On long weekends like this, don't be a stranger online. Pop in and do some PvP with us or run a dungeon for fun.
Just another reminder... Next week I'll be traveling for business. I'm 90% sure I'll be able to make Monday night's raid. The only way I wouldn't is unless these people want to take me out for dinner or whatever. Wednesday is more than likely a no go. I'll be flying back... The following week is Thanksgiving, and my in-laws will be in town. I'll keep in touch via the website and pop in when I can.
Also... Show the new Alien Jackhammer Google+ page some love and add it to your circles. Clicky-click!
Have a great weekend, and will talk to everyone soon!
Next on the hit list…
In pure AJ fashion last night, we finally got our first Firelands heroic kill with Shannox. If you've been with the guild long enough, the kill came as no surprise. It seemed as though we weren't making any progress, our 8th attempt (go Wendy!) we downed him quite easily.
Great job everyone with hanging in there. A special thanks to Zotak for sitting last night; really appreciate it and I hope your pug was good.
I mentioned this last night, but I highly encourage everyone to at least check this site to get a good base of what you may need to change. This helped me dramatically, and the healers confirmed this... My block was improved easily by 15%. Check the site out and let me know your results. I know Chris mentioned another site... Chris, let me know what resources you've found in the comments.
With our first heroic boss down, what do you guys think should be next? I'm thinking Rhyolith should be our next target. What are your thoughts?
Again, good job everyone!
World of Warcraft… again… and again…
Just thought I'd pass this information along to everyone. If you agree to a year subscription to World of Warcraft; you can get some perks for free. I always have paid six months at a time; so it wasn't that much of a big deal (like $77 for six months).
Anyway, if you commit to a one-year agreement you can get the following goodies:
- A free copy of Diablo III (yumm)
- Tyrael's Charger (cool mount)
- Guaranteed Beta entry into the next World of Warcraft expansion (beta pandas!)
So, check it out... If you are gonna fork out the cash anyway; might as well get some free stuff with it!

Goodbye Mr. Dragon… err.. Mr. Elemental….
Last night we finally cleared the last boss of the current content. Although we started off really rough... And when I mean really rough... I mean really rough. But, once we got into our grove; it only took 2-3 attempts to finally down Ragnaros.
Everyone did a fantastic job, and it was very fulfilling to put another notch on the guild belt.
I've already been approached about the 'next steps' and so here is my official response. Most of us still need gear and the tier pieces. Usually after clearing content, people slack off. However, this is the time to get prepared for the next level of content (Deathwing). I do believe that some of the heroic modes are very doable; so we will be approaching them with caution.
I want everyone to have their tier set before the next patch.
Again, great job everyone! I'm proud of you all!
This is a house of learning doctors.
Hope everyone had a great weekend. For the record, I recently moved to Florida and as the fall comes; I'm really surprised on how I've adapted. I lived in Baltimore for most of my life and just checked their weather... 45-degrees (F)... Here, it's 70 and I'm a bit chilly... strange.
Anyway, I'm hoping to have a Ragnaros kill tonight. I know Zotak will be out today, and I haven't heard from Chris or Erin (anyone?). For those of you who haven't been signing up for raids; please do so. Even if you CANT make it; it really helps the leaders out a ton knowing who is and who isn't coming.
I love the seasonal events, and its a really good time to get to know your other guildies. Go and do some quests together, and hang out. Remember, the guild has lasted this long due to having fun in the game and relationships... Grab a buddy, or someone new and run a dungeon, pvp or seasonal event!
Happy Friday, Hammers….
Just wanted to write a quick post for your weekend enjoyment. If you haven't read any of the news about the 4.3 patch; there's a lot to take in. Not only will there be additional content; there are some new mechanics. You may want to check your particular class for any changes.
I'm excited about seeing the new dungeons; which seem to be kind of like the WotLK dungeons... but for Cataclysm. What I find most interesting is the LFR (looking for raid) finder. Not only can you simply pug yourself, but you can queue more than one. What this means is... we can take our core group and queue up for a 25-man raid and still be together. Much nicer than simply trying to find a full-on pug.
Hope Chris is feeling better, but I haven't heard from him... So Chris, if you are reading this... GET BETTER!
Other than that, have an awesome weekend everyone. Hope to see you on at some point for some dungeons and PvP. I'm optimistic we will have our first Ragnaros kill on Monday.
